Bowen, Langford Earn All-SLIAC Honors for William Carey Women’s Basketball
COLUMBUS, Miss. — William Carey University’s women’s basketball players Mia Bowen and Conley Langford earned all-conference honors from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, as announced by the league’s coaches. Bowen was named to the first team, while Langford made the second team, according to a school release.
Bowen, a senior transfer from Itawamba Community College and NCAA Division I Arkansas-Little Rock, was also named to the SLIAC All-Defensive Team and voted Defensive Player of the Year. She finished the season as the NCAA Division III leader in blocked shots per game at 4.2, setting school records for blocks in a game, season, and career. Bowen led William Carey in scoring at 17.6 points per game and rebounding at 10.3 per game, with shooting percentages of 42% from the floor and 70% from the free-throw line.
Langford, a senior, wrapped up her career with her third straight all-conference selection. She averaged 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.7 steals per game in her final season. Langford finished her time at William Carey with 22 school records, including career points scored (1,522) and rebounds (704). A biology major with a perfect 4.0 GPA, she earned multiple academic honors, including three SLIAC All-Academic awards and two national all-academic recognitions.
Teammate Fantasia Wilson, a junior transfer, was named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Wilson started all 22 games, averaging 7.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She ranked third in assists (3.5 per game), fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio, and second in steals (3.0 per game), according to the release.
William Carey’s coach, Eric Vaughn, expressed pride in the players’ achievements. “I’m definitely happy for both Mia and Conley,” he said. “Both were very deserving of the awards they received. It’s not every day a school at this level gets a talent like Mia Bowen. She had the best year of her career, both on and off the court. Conley Langford represents an athlete who got the most out of her talent, both on the court and academically.”
