Blue Mountain Christian Toppers explode for 19 runs to close series against Brewton-Parker
The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers capped their SSAC baseball series against Brewton-Parker Christian with a 19-8 victory Saturday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Georgia. After losing the first two games of the series, the Toppers responded with their most productive offensive outing of the season.
Blue Mountain Christian’s offense found its rhythm early and maintained pressure on the Barons throughout the game. The Toppers scored in multiple innings, capitalizing on scoring opportunities with timely hits and aggressive baserunning. Despite Brewton-Parker’s efforts to generate offense, the Toppers answered with big innings and steadily extended their lead.
They finished with 17 hits and four home runs. Jake Meilstrup led the charge, going 2-for-6 with three runs scored, six RBIs, a triple and a home run. Jacob Bryant went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, three RBIs, a double and a home run. Gates Gerhart contributed with a 3-for-4 effort, three runs scored, three RBIs, two walks, and a stolen base. Garret Lance added power with a 2-for-5 day, including three runs scored, two RBIs, and a home run.
Other offensive contributors included Gavin Foley, who went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Cody Presley, who finished 2-for-6 with two runs scored and a double. Ross Polizzi drove in two RBIs, while Jarrett Morris and Yaidel Perez each contributed one hit, one RBI, and a walk.
On the mound, Benji Webb earned the win, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing 11 hits, eight runs (four earned), and one walk while striking out seven. Christian Manness relieved Webb and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one to close out the game. The win marked a positive finish for the Toppers in the series.
