Berry holds off Millsaps men’s basketball 77-69 in Friday matchup
The Millsaps College men’s basketball team lost to Berry College 77-69 Friday at the Cage Center in Mount Berry, Georgia. The Majors, with an 11-7 overall record and 2-5 in the Southern Athletic Association, were led by a strong bench effort that contributed 31 points, according to team sources.
Junior Cameron Lumar led Millsaps with 21 points and six rebounds, including three three-pointers. Senior Caleb Kent added 13 points and five rebounds. Junior Davion James scored 11 points, with four rebounds and one block. Junior Rodney Phillips Jr. contributed defensively with two steals and six rebounds.
The game started with Millsaps taking an early lead on a three-pointer from Lumar. Berry responded with a series of baskets, including three-pointers, to take a 7-3 advantage. Midway through the first half, Berry built an eight-point lead, but Millsaps fought back. Lumar’s fastbreak layup trimmed the deficit to four points, keeping the game competitive.
Berry maintained its lead, aided by seven three-pointers, and led 48-39 at halftime. In the second half, Millsaps mounted a comeback, narrowing the gap with key plays from Lumar and Kent. Despite shooting struggles, the Majors capitalized on turnovers to stay within striking distance.
By the 8:34 mark, Berry’s lead reached its largest at 13 points. Millsaps responded with a three-pointer from James and other efforts, but the Vikings held on. Berry made two free throws in the final seconds, securing the 77-69 victory. Lumar scored a late layup, but it was not enough for the Majors.
