Belhaven Track and Field Teams Shine at Samford Bulldog Invitational

The Belhaven University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Friday at the Samford Bulldog Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, achieving several personal bests against a competitive field.

The men’s team opened with the 60-meter dash, where Leeson Taylor III led the Blazers with a time of 7.35 seconds. Julius Phillips finished in 7.38 seconds, and freshman Jaheem Cook clocked a personal-best 7.55 seconds. In the 200 meters, Taylor recorded a time of 23.56 seconds, while Cook improved with a personal-best 24.45 seconds. During the 400 meters, Kenneth Mills led the team with a time of 53 seconds flat, with senior Drew Duckworth posting a personal best of 54.15 seconds. Donovan Hurst finished in 58.66 seconds.

Field events featured Alex Reed placing seventh in the long jump with a mark of 6.16 meters (20-02.50). Jonah Moore cleared 5.57 meters (18-03.25), and Neveah Matthews jumped 5.25 meters (17-02.75).

On the women’s side, Yasmine McCann posted a time of 8.23 seconds in the 60 meters, with freshman Brycelyn Townsend close behind at 8.29 seconds. Townsend also competed in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 9.86 seconds. In the 200 meters, Townsend clocked 28.21 seconds, and McCann finished in 28.55 seconds. The women’s 800 meters saw Courtney Adams finish in 2:51.48, with Myisha Turner close behind at 2:52.68.
