Belhaven softball drops doubleheader to No. 9 ETBU

Marshall, Texas — Belhaven softball faced a challenging doubleheader against No. 9 East Texas Baptist on Friday, losing both games. The Blazers fell 8-0 in the first game and 1-0 in the second, a close contest marked by strong pitching performances.

In the opener, ETBU’s pitching limited Belhaven to three hits over six innings. The Blazers’ best scoring chance came in the third inning, when Grace Langston and Melissa Lopera each singled, and Emma Moore drew a walk. Belhaven left the bases loaded to end the inning. Macy Funderburk started for the Blazers, striking out three batters and allowing just one hit in 1.1 innings.

The second game featured a tight defensive battle. Karley Rouse pitched a complete game for Belhaven, giving up one run on four hits with two strikeouts over six innings. Despite out-hitting ETBU 6-4, the Blazers were unable to score. Their best scoring opportunity came in the first inning, with Lopera singling and Reagan Bryan doubling to put two runners in scoring position with one out. The only run of the game came from a solo home run in the third inning.

Lopera led Belhaven’s offense in the second game, going 2-for-3 with two singles. The Blazers threatened again in the fifth inning, with Lopera singling and Bryan being hit by a pitch to load the bases, but ETBU’s defense held firm to preserve the win.
