AUM Softball Defeats Mississippi College 3-0 in Montgomery
AUBURN MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Auburn Montgomery’s softball team defeated Mississippi College 3-0 Saturday at the AUM Softball Complex. The Warhawks improved to 17-4 overall and 5-4 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Choctaws fell to 12-10-1 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
AUM’s pitching staff held Mississippi College to just four hits and kept the Choctaws scoreless. The Warhawks took an early lead in the second inning when Reese Cauley hit a solo home run down the left-field line. They added two more runs in the fourth on a double by Karris Rhine that scored Rebecca Komers and Gracie Suggs.
Mississippi College threatened in the later innings but couldn’t score. Shelby Samples and Madelyn England each singled in the sixth, but the Choctaws couldn’t capitalize. In the seventh, Megan Matheis doubled to left-center but the team failed to score, sealing the shutout.
Reagan Rios took the loss for Mississippi College, allowing three runs on three hits over three innings. Camryn Bailey relieved Rios and threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out four. Offensively, Samples led the Choctaws with two hits, while Matheis added a double and a walk. Blakely Gill contributed a stolen base.
Mississippi College will return home next weekend for a conference series against Lee. The team is scheduled to host a doubleheader on Friday, March 13, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by the series finale Saturday, March 14, at 1 p.m.
