Alcorn’s Nakia Cheatham Named to BOXTOROW All-America First Team

RALEIGH, N.C. — Alcorn State University forward Nakia Cheatham has been named to the 2025-26 BOXTOROW Women’s Basketball All-America First Team, the organization announced Thursday from its Raleigh, North Carolina, headquarters.

The graduate student from Clarksdale, Mississippi, is earning her first BOXTOROW postseason award and was also named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Defensive Player of the Year. Cheatham, a Coahoma Community College alum, recorded eight double-doubles during the regular season, including one in the SWAC tournament.

She finished the season third in the SWAC in scoring with 395 points (13.2 points per game) and was tied for second in rebounds with 228 (7.6 per game). Cheatham also led the conference in steals with 71 and ranked eighth in blocks with 31. Her shooting percentage from the field is 42.8 percent, and she has a 28.3 percent rate from three-point range. Additionally, she has dished out 58 assists from her forward position.

In her last game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC tournament, Cheatham scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, marking her ninth double-double of the season. Alcorn State will host South Alabama in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament on Saturday, March 21, at 3 p.m. in Lorman, Mississippi.
