Alcorn State Softball Opens Home Season Against Dillard
Alcorn State Softball is set to host Dillard on Tuesday at the Alcorn Softball Complex in Lorman, Mississippi. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m., following the team’s 13-game road stretch. The non-conference series marks the Braves’ first home game of the season, and they aim to make a strong impression in front of their fans, according to coach Billie.
Alcorn has been led offensively by Chiara Olison, who boasts a .417 batting average and a .542 slugging percentage. Senior outfielder Ka’Miya Dillon has been consistent at the plate, hitting safely in all but two games this season and riding a three-game hitting streak into the week. Yahnya Acevedo leads the team with three home runs, including an inside-the-park homer at the River City Classic.
In their last game, the Braves defeated Miles 8-2 at the HBCU Celebration Classic in Montgomery, Alabama. Olivia Miller pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits. Mariah Morgan hit her first triple of the season, contributing to the team’s offensive effort. Miller improved her record to 1-1 with the win, while Miles’ Gracey Adkins took the loss.
Alcorn and Dillard have never met in softball, making this opening matchup a new chapter for both programs. Dillard carries a 4-5 record overall and a 2-1 mark in the Red River Athletic Conference, with a team batting average of .395 and a 7.11 ERA.
Coach Billie emphasized the importance of the home opener, saying, “There’s nothing quite like playing in front of our home crowd for the first time this season. Our players have been looking forward to this moment, and we want to make sure we put on a performance that our fans and this university can be proud of.”
The Braves will continue their homestand with a doubleheader against Xavier (La.) on Friday, Feb. 27, beginning at 1 p.m., before traveling for upcoming away games. All games will be live-streamed with stats available online, and fans are encouraged to follow @BravesSports on X (formerly Twitter) and @AlcornSports on Instagram for updates.
