Alcorn State Hosts Two SWAC Games This Weekend
Alcorn State University hosts two Southwestern Athletic Conference games at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Mississippi, this weekend. The Braves face Bethune-Cookman on Saturday and Florida A&M on Monday, both games beginning at 3 p.m. CST.
Bethune-Cookman, the league leader with a 10-1 conference record, defeated Alcorn earlier this season 82-73 in Daytona Beach. The Wildcats are averaging 75.1 points per game and shooting 45.6 percent from the field. Jakobi Heady leads BCU with 17.8 points per game, and Ariel Bland is the team’s top rebounder with 5.1 per game.
Florida A&M, currently tied for fourth in the SWAC, enters the game with a 9-13 overall record and a 6-5 conference mark. The Rattlers are led by Jaquan Sanders, who has scored 246 points this season, and Tyler Shirley, who averages 5.0 rebounds per game. They are coached by first-year head coach Charlie Ward, a former Heisman Trophy winner.
