Alcorn State University’s softball team will compete in the HBCU Celebration Classic in Montgomery, Alabama, this weekend. The Braves will play five games across two venues—the Barbara Williams Softball Complex on the Alabama State campus and Lagoon Park Sports Complex—over three days, according to the team.

The tournament schedule begins Friday, Feb. 20, with a game against Mississippi Valley State at 11:30 a.m. at Lagoon Park. The team then faces Alabama State at 6 p.m. at Barbara Williams Softball Complex. On Saturday, Alcorn will play Jackson State at 2 p.m. and Tuskegee at 4:30 p.m. at Lagoon Park. The final game is scheduled for Sunday at 10 a.m. against Miles College at Lagoon Park.

Tickets for the event are available online, and fans are encouraged to follow Alcorn Softball on X (formerly Twitter) at @BravesSports and on Instagram at @AlcornSports for updates. The team aims to showcase its talent and represent HBCU communities during the event, head coach Billie said.

Alcorn enters the tournament with a team batting average of .298, led by Chiara Olison (.462) and Ka’Miya Dillon (10 hits). Yahnya Acevedo also has double-digit hits and two home runs. The pitching staff includes Olivia Miller and Olison, with ERA figures of 2.55 and 7.40, respectively.

Historically, Alcorn trails Mississippi Valley State 69-41 but has won six of the last eight meetings. The Braves are also 2-1 against Tuskegee and 3-1 versus Miles College. Alabama State leads the all-time series 25-17 but has lost four of the last five matchups against Alcorn.

Coach Billie emphasized the importance of the tournament for team development and representation. “We’re excited about the opportunity. It’s bigger than softball—it’s about representing Alcorn State and the HBCU community,” he said. “We want to leave Montgomery with wins and playing our best softball.”

The team’s next game will be Tuesday, Feb. 24, against Dillard University at home in Lorman, Mississippi, beginning at 1 p.m.
