Ole Miss’ Kory Henkes named to WGCA fall watch list

Ole Miss women’s golf coach Kory Henkes was named to the inaugural fall watch list for the Jackie Steinmann WGCA National Coach of the Year, the Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced Tuesday.

Henkes is among 19 Division I coaches on the list and one of five from the South Region. The WGCA said it will continue evaluating coaches through the spring. The award recognizes top coaches in Division I, Division II, Division III and the NAIA.

This is the fifth time Henkes has appeared on the national coach of the year watch list. She won the award in 2021 after leading Ole Miss to its first NCAA Championship. In her 12th season, she guided the Rebels to three runner-up finishes in four fall tournaments.

Ole Miss opened with a second-place finish at the Boilermaker Classic, shooting 5-under 859. The Rebels also finished second at The Ally and ended their fall schedule one stroke short of the team title at the Illini Women’s Invitational.

Junior Mary Miller led the team with a 71.00 stroke average and three top-10 finishes. She tied for fifth at the Boilermaker Classic, placed ninth at the Cougar Classic and tied for third at the Illini Women’s Invitational. Freshman Lisa Herman finished second in her collegiate debut at the Boilermaker Classic and third at The Ally.

Ole Miss is scheduled to begin its spring season Jan. 31-Feb. 2 at the Grand Reservation Dominican Republic Classic in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
