Georgia overwhelms Ole Miss in three-phase performance
Georgia dominated Ole Miss in a performance Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart described as a total team effort, while Rebels coach Pete Golding said his team struggled in all three phases and failed to match its standard.
Smart said Georgia set the tone from the start, played aggressively and controlled the line of scrimmage. He credited the coaching staff’s plans on both sides of the ball and said the team’s rushing attack helped create opportunities for quarterback Gunner Stockton.
Georgia linebacker Raylen Wilson said the defense aimed to keep Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss contained in the pocket. Chambliss said Georgia brought pressure and recorded four sacks, making it difficult for the Rebels’ offense to find a rhythm.
Golding said penalties also interrupted Ole Miss’ attempts to build momentum, including a flag after an interception. He said the Rebels could not string together positive plays, and acknowledged that the team had not been ready to play well enough. He also thanked fans for creating an electric atmosphere and said Ole Miss needed to give them a better performance.
Chambliss called the outcome and the offense’s start unacceptable. He said Ole Miss needed to begin games faster and take responsibility for its performance, while urging the team to learn from the loss without dwelling on it. Golding said the Rebels would turn their attention to Oklahoma and focus on correcting what they could control.
Smart cautioned against reading too much into one result, saying Georgia needed to keep improving and prepare for its next game at home. Bulldogs players also emphasized that the team still had work to do. Offensive lineman Earnest Greene III said Georgia had not yet played a full four-quarter game, while defensive back KJ Bolden said the team needed to move on and keep improving.
