Mississippi State Alumni Set for NFL Week 8 Matchups

Mississippi State has 19 former players on NFL rosters, according to the school, and several are scheduled to appear in Week 8 games. The Bulldogs’ NFL contingent also includes coaches and other staff members, bringing the reported total of alumni in league roles to 24.

Among the former players listed for Sunday are quarterback Dak Prescott and linebacker Tyrus Wheat of the Dallas Cowboys, who are scheduled to host the Arizona Cardinals. Cardinals offensive tackle Albert Reese IV is also on the matchup list. Jacksonville Jaguars punter Logan Cooke is scheduled to face the Indianapolis Colts, while Cleveland Browns center and guard Elgton Jenkins is listed for the game against Pittsburgh.

Other Sunday matchups featuring Mississippi State alumni include Los Angeles Rams cornerback Emmanuel Forbes against the Chargers’ Brenen Thompson, Kansas City defensive tackle Chris Jones against Denver, and Miami linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and tight end Seydou Traore against New England.

On Monday, Chicago is scheduled to play Seattle. Bears defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and defensive end Montez Sweat are listed for the game, as is Seahawks offensive tackle Charles Cross. Mississippi State said Simmons and Sweat reunited in Chicago after Tennessee traded Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the Bears for first-round selections in 2027 and 2028 and a 2027 fourth-round pick.

The school also highlighted six former Bulldogs who have earned Pro Bowl selections: Jones, Prescott, Simmons, Sweat, Jenkins and Cooke. It listed Simmons, Sweat, Cross and Emmanuel Forbes Jr. as first-round draft picks, and Cross, Jones and Willie Gay Jr. as Super Bowl champions. The Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints, each with two Mississippi State alumni listed, are off this week.

Former Bulldogs also hold NFL staff roles, including Stephen Adegoke as Houston’s safeties coach, Fred Walker as an offensive assistant in Jacksonville, K.J. Wright as San Francisco’s linebackers coach and DeAndre Ward Sr. as Tampa Bay’s assistant strength and conditioning coach. Allen Sills is the league’s chief medical officer, according to the school.
