Josh Hubbard earns consensus Preseason All-SEC first-team honors
Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard was named a consensus selection to the Preseason All-SEC First Team by the league’s coaches, the conference announced Thursday. It is his second straight season earning the honor.
Hubbard enters the 2026-27 season with 1,947 career points, fourth on Mississippi State’s all-time scoring list and 34th in SEC history. His 311 career 3-pointers are a program record and tied for ninth on the conference’s all-time list.
The Madison native is one of two Mississippi State players, along with Erick Dampier, to earn All-SEC recognition as a freshman, sophomore and junior. The school said Hubbard is seeking to become the ninth player in SEC history to earn All-SEC first-, second- or third-team honors in four consecutive seasons. The last to do so was Florida’s Udonis Haslem.
Hubbard was the first Mississippi State player to record at least 700 points and 100 assists in 2025-26, according to the school. He is one of two SEC players and 12 from the major conferences to have multiple seasons with at least 640 points and 100 assists during the 2000s.
Mississippi State is scheduled to open its 2026-27 season against Tennessee Tech on Monday, Nov. 2, at Humphrey Coliseum. The game is listed for 6:30 p.m. Central and is scheduled to stream on SEC Network+ through the ESPN app. Coach Chris Jans’ team is pursuing its fourth NCAA Tournament berth in a five-year span, which would be the third such run in program history.
