Bulldogs women’s basketball back to NCAA tournament

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State Bulldogs had their named called for the Big Dance for the 13th time in program history on Sunday, as they return to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years under head coach Sam Purcell.

The Bulldogs were selected as the nine seed in the Spokane 4 Region of the Tournament. The Bulldogs will pair with the eighth-seeded California Golden Bears in the opening round, with the winner taking on either the top-seed USC Trojans or the UNC Greensboro Spartans.

The Bulldogs will travel to Los Angeles, California for the first round of action at the University of Southern California. This marks the third time the Bulldogs will play in the state of California and the second time on the campus of USC. The last time being during the 2016-17 season. Those Dawgs won a pair of matchups over SMU and USC.

Ten teams from the Southeastern Conference were selected in this year’s edition of March Madness, setting a record for the most teams selected of the conference. The previous record was nine teams.

Alongside the women’s program, Chris Jans’ men’s basketball squad was selected for the tournament. This season marks the sixth time that both teams have been selected for their respective tournaments, including two of the last three seasons.
