Memphis Hustle fall to Lakers in South Bay
Second game of two-game set to be played Saturday
The Memphis Hustle (12-14) were defeated 122-117 by the South Bay Lakers (14-10) in the first of a two-game set in El Segundo, California on Thursday, March 7.
DeJon Jarreau tied his career-high with 30 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Davon Reed scored a season-high 27 points. Michael Devoe contributed 23 points and nine rebounds. Lucas Williamson added 18 points off the bench. Loudon Love tallied nine points, eight rebounds and four steals.
On assignment from the Lakers, Jalen Hood-Schifino led the Lakers with 26 points and six assists. Two-way transfer Skylar Mays scored 25 points off the bench. Bryce Hamilton tallied 16 points and six assists. Lakers assignee Maxwell Lewis contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Two-way transfer Harry Giles III finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
After trailing by as many as 13, the Hustle went on a 19-5 run to take a 112-111 lead with 4:44 remaining in the game. South Bay responded scoring seven straight points to take a 118-112 lead with 2:08 left in the game to pull away with the win.
South Bay shot 50 percent from beyond the arc, making 21 3-pointers. Memphis outrebounded the Lakers 49-43 and outscored South Bay 50-36 in the paint. The Hustle scored 25 points off turnovers.
The Hustle will conclude their six-game road trip with another matchup against the South Bay Lakers on Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. Central.
