Mass shooting related to Leland high school football homecoming event leaves multiple dead, multiple injured

At least four people were killed and twelve others injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in Leland, Mississippi, according to city officials.

Mayor John Lee said the shooting occurred around midnight on Leland’s main street as crowds gathered following Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston. Four of the injured were airlifted to area hospitals, though their conditions remain unknown. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.

Unofficial reports suggest the toll may be higher, with one off-the-record source claiming six dead and eighteen injured, while social media users have alleged as many as thirty people were shot.

The Leland incident was one of three separate shootings across Mississippi on Friday night, all linked to high school football events, leaving multiple people dead and injured statewide.
