Choctaw County holds of Noxubee County to win their first ever state title
Them County Boys came to handle business. After a good game, Choctaw County would hold off to win the game 34-27.
This game was full of stars. Noxubee County was coming in with their four-star stud at quarterback, Kamario Taylor and his little brother, Jaiden Taylor. Choctaw County came in with five-star wide receiver Caleb Cunningham and five-star defensive lineman, Ben Shumaker. Only one hour separates these two communities. This was a game to see.
The first half was very exciting. Both teams were moving the ball and scoring. Tayshawn King scored first for Noxubee making it a 7-0 game. Then the Tigers striked back instantly making it a 7-7 game. Both of these teams showed they came to play and did not want to lose. Laderoun Mosley was out there running the ball with ease. He was a major factor in them starting off this game right.
“I told our guys all year they could do it,” said head coach Dillon Mitchell. “These guys worked really hard and came out and got it done. I’m very proud of how hard they worked.”
Mosley would immediately score after halftime, but Noxubee missed the extra point making it a 20-19 game in Choctaw County’s favor.
Caleb Cunningham would find his way to the end zone on a nice screen play. The Ole Miss Commit had a good game all over the field.
“I am so happy right now,” said Cunningham. “I am glad we got it done. We have worked so hard all year. This was big for our community!”
Things just kept on getting interesting in the second half. At one point, Choctaw County had two unanswered touchdowns before Mosley would get in again for Noxubee County.
There were a few dropped passes at the end of the game that stopped Noxubee from advancing. Choctaw would hold off to win this game. KJ Cork was the player of the game.
“I knew I had to put my team on my back,” said Cork. “My line held up for me, our running backs were running hard and our receivers were making plays all night!”
