Rangers again sweep MACCC player of the week honors
Nov 19, 2024-For the second consecutive week, Northwest has taken a clean sweep of MACCC Football Player of the Week accolades, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced Tuesday morning.
Sophomore tailback D’mariun Perteet earned his first MACCC Offensive Player of the Week honor, while sophomore linebacker Caulen Dunn notched his second straight Defensive Player of the Week award. Meanwhile, freshman kicker/punter Hayden Wolfe tallied his second Special Teams Player of the Week accolade this season, the fourth Northwest player to earn special teams POTW honors this year.
A native of Courtland, Perteet recorded his seventh 100-yard rushing effort of the season in the Rangers’ 34-7 MACCC title win against seventh-ranked East Central. He rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries against the Warriors, recording the only offensive touchdowns for Northwest.
Perteet is just the second Northwest player to earn MACCC Offensive Player of the Week recognition, joining quarterback Zach Wilcke, who received the award last week following the Rangers’ 33-31 win against No. 5 Mississippi Gulf Coast in the MACCC Semifinals.
Although the Rangers’ defense was anywhere and everywhere in the win at East Central, a pair of defensive scores made the biggest difference. One of those came from Dunn, who ripped away a reception from the Warriors, returning the ball 59 yards for a touchdown. The Olive Branch native also collected two tackles, including 0.5 tackles-for-loss.
Dunn is the second Northwest player to receive MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week, racking up his second such honor. Fredd Adams also earned the award earlier this season for his four-interception game against then-No. 8 East Mississippi.
Wolfe hit a pair of field goals from 32 and 20 yards out, while also punting the ball five times for 194 yards. Two of his punts landed inside the 20-yard line, including one attempt that went for 53 yards.
A native of Clinton, Wolfe has received MACCC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades for the second time this season, after previously earning the award following the Rangers’ Week 1 contest against Pearl River. Fellow kicker Jackson Uselton and returner M.J. Johnson have also picked up the same honor throughout the season.
