Following back-to-back conference losses, the Northwest men’s tennis team snapped the skid with a strong 9-0 victory at Holmes on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday’s win marked the second shutout win of the season for the Ranger men, improving the team’s overall record to 5-6 overall and 5-3 in the MACCC. The Northwest women also earned a 9-0 win by forfeit, bumping the Lady Rangers to a 3-8 mark on the season and a 3-5 conference record.
Freshmen Noah Lary and Peter Floyd earned their first singles victories of the season on courts five and six, with Lary taking a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Brandon Feliciano. Floyd won 6-1, 6-0 on court six against Mason Speed.
In No. 3 doubles, John David Nelson and Kaleb Parish notched an 8-0 win against Speed and Benjamin Vergara. The duo of Samuel Turner and Bratton Willoughby also earned an 8-1 victory in No. 2 doubles against Paul Gaines and Garrett Wakefield, while Chris Albert and Ian Gordon picked up a gritty 8-5 victory on No. 1 doubles.
Northwest will travel to Northeast on Friday, March 31 for the final conference road match of the regular season. The matches are scheduled for 11 A.M. at BNA Park in New Albany.
