First four-year signee from 2022 squad

Northwest setter Lia Ramos is continuing her playing career with William Carey University next season after officially signing with the Lady Crusaders over the weekend.

Ramos, a native of Daphne, Ala., is the first member of the Lady Rangers’ historic 2022 squad to sign with a four-year program.

“Originally, I didn’t expect to come here, but I thank God that I did,” Ramos said, reflecting on her time at Northwest. “Northwest opened a lot of doors for me, not just in volleyball. I came here to play volleyball, but found so much more. It’s been an amazing experience and I am so thankful for my experiences here.”

In her two seasons in Senatobia, Ramos played in 44 matches with 604 assists, 228 digs and 36 service aces. In a road match at Rust College last September, Ramos totaled a whopping 38 assists with 14 digs, helping Northwest to a win against the NAIA program. She also finished with a career-high 15 digs in a road loss at Frontier last October.

Ramos helped Northwest to a 15-14 final record, helping coach Allison Burchyett’s team capture the first Region 23 title in program history. The Lady Rangers advanced to the FCSAA/NJCAA Division II Gulf District Tournament in November, where the team lost in the opening round to St. Johns River State.

Ramos is also a member of the Northwest women’s tennis team, which is in the midst of its regular season.
