Jones College beats Pearl River 20-13 to extend winning streak

ELLISVILLE — Jones College defeated Pearl River 20-13 Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium in the 96th annual rivalry game. The victory extended Jones’ winning streak over Pearl River to 10 games and opened MACCC South Division play with a win for the Bobcats.

Jevarion Glover threw for 263 yards and scored three touchdowns for Jones. He completed a 20-yard pass to Tyree Barnett for the first score and added rushing touchdowns of 12 and 1 yards. Glover also led a key 83-yard drive late in the first quarter, finishing it with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Barnett. The extra point put Jones ahead 7-0.

Pearl River responded with a 72-yard drive, capped by Jackson Firmin’s 2-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 7-7 in the second quarter. Jones regained the lead just before halftime. Delarrius Hayes caused a fumble recovered by Malachi Henderson, setting up the Bobcats at the Pearl River 26. Glover scored on a 12-yard run with 32 seconds remaining in the half, giving Jones a 14-7 lead at the break.

Early in the third quarter, Jones extended its lead to 20-7 with an 89-yard drive, capped by Glover’s 1-yard quarterback keeper. Pearl River responded quickly, with Jackson Firmin connecting with DK Wallace on a 45-yard touchdown pass. The Wildcats missed a two-point conversion, making the score 20-13. Neither team scored again, and Jones’s defense held Pearl River scoreless in the final 21 minutes.

Jordyn Smith led Jones with 11 tackles and a breakup. Delarrius Hayes added 10 tackles, three for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Arterus Moffett recorded his first career interception, helping preserve the victory. Glover finished with 263 passing yards and 49 rushing yards. Jet Henderson led Jones receivers with 73 yards.

The Bobcats will travel to Wesson next Thursday to face Copiah-Lincoln at 6:30 p.m., with the game streamed at jcbobcats.com/watch.
