Coahoma Football Opens MACCC North Division Play on the Road at Holmes

CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Coahoma Community College’s football team is set to face Holmes Community College on Thursday in Goodman, Mississippi, in the opening game of the MACCC North Division. Both teams enter the contest with 0-3 records and are eager for their first victory of the season.

The Tigers hope to rebound after a narrow 24-19 road loss to East Central Community College last week. Coahoma produced 319 yards of total offense, led by quarterback Jacob Clopton, who completed 17 of 30 passes for 179 yards and added 49 rushing yards on 14 carries. Running back Issac Day provided a boost on the ground with 58 yards and two rushing touchdowns on 17 attempts. Wide receiver Jaden Moses caught seven passes for 126 yards, highlighting the passing attack.

Defensively, Coahoma has emphasized physical play, recording three sacks and seven tackles for loss against East Central. Defensive lineman Josh Gale led the pass rush with two sacks and two tackles for loss. Defensive backs Ardavius Harris and Arlanders Stovall each posted five tackles for the Tigers.

Holmes Community College, also seeking its first win, fell 21-7 to Hinds Community College last week. The Bulldogs gained 277 total yards, with quarterback George Wilcox passing for 186 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver JerKel Ivy was a key target, catching five passes for 91 yards and scoring once. On defense, Jerean Reed contributed with 11 tackles and two sacks in the game.

Both teams are looking to establish momentum in divisional play after challenging early schedules. The game will be an important step for each program as they aim to improve their standings in the MACCC North Division.
