Montevallo beats Delta State 2-0 on Senior Day

The Delta State University men’s soccer team fell to the University of Montevallo 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Delta Field.

The Falcons opened the scoring early, with Nolan Peffer finding the net in the fourth minute. Joaquin Wladdimiro added a goal in the 21st minute, giving Montevallo an early lead they maintained for the rest of the match.

Delta State (2-7-1, 0-4-0 Gulf South Conference) managed eight shots, including three on goal, but was unable to score against Montevallo goalkeeper Andre Etcheverry, who recorded the shutout.

Cyrus Gulati led the Statesmen with three shots. Elijah Belk and Callum Black also contributed offensively. Delta State goalkeeper Daniel Santema made six saves in the loss.

Montevallo finished with a 21-8 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks, controlling the pace throughout the game. Delta State will return to Gulf South Conference play next Saturday, traveling to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene University.
