Jackson State Falls to Louisiana in Four-Set Volleyball Match

Lafayette, La. — Jackson State’s volleyball team came close but ultimately fell to Louisiana in a four-set match Saturday at Earl K. Long Gym. The Tigers lost 3-1, with set scores of 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-25.

Jackson State showed resilience throughout the match, recording 45 kills and seven blocks. The Tigers responded to Louisiana’s opening-set win with a 25-23 victory in the second set to tie the match at one set each. They stayed competitive in the third set but ultimately lost 25-21. Louisiana closed out the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.

Hope Briggs led Jackson State offensively with 13 kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Shelby Zanders added 10 kills without an attack error, finishing with a team-best .526 attack percentage. Parker Featherstone contributed six kills, while Sophia McKenzie had eight kills and seven digs. Ryleigh Davis dished out 22 assists to facilitate the Tigers’ offense.

Defensively, Giannelle Asomani led with 18 digs, and Zanders contributed four blocks. Naija Gadis added 15 assists, and Maya Reeves recorded six digs. The Tigers are scheduled to open SWAC play at home Friday at 3 p.m. against Prairie View A&M.
