Belhaven women rank third entering CCS cross-country championship

Belhaven is scheduled to compete in the CCS women’s cross-country championship Friday at John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, Alabama. The 6K race is listed for 8:30 a.m. The Blazers are third in the pre-championship coaches’ poll, behind Covenant and defending champion Asbury.

Belhaven comes into the meet after recording its fastest five-runner 6K team total of the season at the Watson Collegiate Classic two weeks ago. Senior Ashley Davidson led the Blazers in 27:10.4. Courtney Adams followed in 28:02.5, more than two minutes faster than her previous 6K best. Freshman Virtasia Shepard ran 28:08.4, and Brycelyn Townsend finished in 28:41.1. Six Belhaven runners set personal bests at the meet.

Townsend, Adams and Jocelyn Belonga competed at last year’s conference championship, placing 32nd, 34th and 37th, respectively, as Belhaven finished seventh with 152 points. Davidson’s career-best 6K time is 25:57.2, set at Watson last season; she did not race at the 2025 CCS meet.

Asbury won last year’s team title with 32 points behind individual champion Bailey Gassmann. Gassmann and third-place finisher Emma Groff return. Covenant also brings back Aida Okie and Kenzi Stapleton, who finished 10th and 11th. The seven-team field includes Agnes Scott, Asbury, Belhaven, Covenant, Huntingdon, LaGrange and Piedmont.
