Belhaven Punter Kyle Norris Earns Second Straight D3Football.com Honor
Belhaven punter Kyle Norris earned his second consecutive D3Football.com Team of the Week selection Tuesday after helping the Blazers preserve a 20-15 road win over Methodist.
Norris punted six times for 280 yards, an average of 46.7 yards, and placed five kicks inside the 20-yard line without a touchback. His 38-yard punt in the first quarter put Methodist at its own 1, and he forced a fair catch at the 3 to begin the fourth quarter. His longest kick traveled 59 yards.
With Belhaven trailing 15-14 in the fourth quarter, Norris punted 56 yards from the Blazers’ 29 to the Methodist 15. Belhaven’s defense forced a punt on the following possession, keeping the deficit at one point before the Blazers secured the win.
Norris is the first Belhaven player to receive two individual D3Football.com Team of the Week honors in the same season. Across the two games behind his selections, he averaged 50.3 yards on 11 punts, with nine inside the 20 and six of at least 50 yards. His first honor followed a 54.6-yard average against Southern Virginia.
Through eight games, Norris had 37 punts for 1,714 yards and a 46.32-yard average, which the school said led Division III by 2.03 yards. He also led the USA South with 15 punts of at least 50 yards. His career totals stood at 5,259 yards on 123 punts, ranking fourth in Belhaven history in punting yards and third in average at 42.8 yards.
Belhaven (4-4, 3-2 USA South) was scheduled to host LaGrange on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Belhaven Bowl Stadium for Senior Day.
