Baker’s Walk-Off Single Ties Southern Miss Fall Series
Cade Baker’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Black a walk-off win over Gold and tied the Southern Miss Fall Baseball World Series at two games apiece.
With Davis Gillespie on second to begin the inning, a wild pitch advanced him to third, and Gray Eubanks drew a walk. Baker then lined a single to left-center to end the game.
Gold scored first in the third inning when Trey Barnes doubled home Justin Word. Black tied it in the fifth as Gillespie reached on a fielder’s choice that brought home Cade Adams.
Luke Williams earned the win in relief, pitching the final two innings without allowing a hit or a run. He struck out four and walked none. Logan Pratt took the loss after allowing the winning run in the eighth without recording an out.
Black’s Brady Waugh doubled in the first, and Bankston Walters tripled in the seventh, but Gold stranded both runners. Barnes and Word each doubled for Gold. Black starter Grayden Harris allowed one run and three hits in three innings, with three strikeouts and no walks. Gold starter Drew Harrison gave up four hits and struck out four over his outing without allowing a run.
The deciding game of the best-of-five series was listed for Monday at 5 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Admission was listed as free.
