Alcorn State Looks to Improve to 3-1 with Road Game at North Alabama
Alcorn State University’s football team is heading to Florence, Alabama, for a Saturday night matchup against North Alabama. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bobby Wallace Field at Bank Independent Stadium, with live coverage on WPRL 91.7 FM and ESPN+.
The Braves are riding momentum from last week, when quarterback Jalen Tolbert was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week and running back Ernest Temple earned Newcomer of the Week honors. Tolbert enters the game ranked fourth in the FCS in passing yards with 869 and passing touchdowns with 10, according to school officials.
Alcorn State, currently 2-1 overall and 0-0 in the SWAC, aims to improve its record to 3-1 for the first time since 2018. The team also seeks its first win over a United Athletic Conference opponent this season. North Alabama, which holds a 1-2 record, is part of the UAC.
Several players and coaches received preseason honors, including Cameran Rogers and Eric Thomas Jr., who are on the 2026 Deacon Jones Player of the Year Watch List. Defensive back Tayvion Haney is on the Aeneas Williams Award Preseason Watch List. Punter Demetrion Duvall is among 14 FCS student-athletes listed on the preseason Punter of the Year Watch List by the Augusta Sports Council.
Alcorn was predicted to finish third in the SWAC West Division, according to league media, with Rogers on the preseason first team offense and Thomas on the first team defense. Duvall was named to the preseason first team for special teams, and six players received preseason honors overall.
This will be the first meeting between Alcorn State and North Alabama. The game will be broadcast on the Braves Radio Network, with Charles Edmond calling play-by-play. The broadcast will also stream on ESPN+.
Cedric Thomas, now in his third season as head coach, aims for his 14th career win with the Braves. The game weather forecast predicts a high of 92 degrees, with a light wind and a 5% chance of rain.
