Bulldogs fall to Aggies 28-14

Mississippi State football (1-3) lost for the third straight week. The Bulldogs lost 28-14 to No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies.

The Aggies had the Bulldogs’ numbers as the Bulldogs had minus two rushing yards. Bulldog head coach Mike Leach made whatever changes were necessary to get something positive from the offense.

With 8:39 left in the third quarter, freshmen Will Rogers entered as the Bulldog quarterback. K. J. Costello finished the day 15 of 22 completions for 99 yards, one interception and was sacked five times.

Rogers was 15 of 18 for 120 yards, one touchdown and was sacked once.

The first quarter ended scoreless and the teams were matched until Texas ended the first quarter on the Bulldog three. On the first down of the second quarter, Texas went ahead 7-0 with three seconds off the clock on a three-yard run and extra point kick.

A blocked Bulldog punt recovered by kicker Tucker Day on the Bulldog one set up the Aggies for the next one-yard touchdown and extra point kick with 13:57 left in the first half. The Aggies went ahead 14-0.

A pick 6 was the Bulldogs’ first score of the evening by an Emmanuel Forbes interception of Aggie quarterback Kellen Mond’s pass for 60 yards at the 11:38 mark of the third quarter. Brandon Ruiz’s extra point cut the score 14-7.

On the next Aggie possession, Mond completed a 51-yard pass for a touchdown to go ahead 21-7.

The next Bulldog possession resulted in a fumble which turned into a touchdown and a 28-7 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Rogers completed a 32-yard pass to Malik Heath for a touchdown. Ruiz’ extra point kick provided the final scores of the game for a 28-14 Aggie lead.

Erroll Thompson led the Bulldogs with 11 tackles.

The Bulldogs have an open date Oct. 24 and will return to action Saturday, Oct. 31 at No. 2 Alabama at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.
