Williams Scores 18 as Alcorn Falls to Arkansas-Pine Bluff
Davian Williams scored 18 points to lead all players as Alcorn State fell 84-77 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon. The game was played inside H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
The Braves (4-18, 3-7 SWAC) lost their fourth consecutive road game and dropped back-to-back contests. Despite the loss, five players scored in double figures for Alcorn, including Williams, Tycen McDaniels, Bryson Calamese, Nick Woodard, and Shane Lancaster.
Williams connected on five three-pointers, the most by the guard since he made six at LSU on Nov. 18. He also led all players with 18 points. McDaniels added 12 points, five steals, and a block, while Woodard scored 11 points, including four second-half field goals. Lancaster chipped in 10 points.
Alcorn’s bench outscored UAPB’s 32-12, and the Braves forced 15 turnovers, scoring 15 points off those mistakes. The team also shot 46.2% in the first half, while UAPB shot 65.4% and led 49-34 at halftime.
UAPB maintained a double-digit lead for much of the game, pushing the advantage to 20 points at multiple points in the second half. The Braves rallied late, with Lancaster hitting a three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to 80-77, but the Golden Lions held on for the win.
