William Carey Women’s Basketball Dominates Brewton-Parker

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey’s women’s basketball team secured a 69-42 win over Brewton-Parker on Thursday at Clinton Gym. The Lady Crusaders controlled the game from start to finish, forcing 19 turnovers and limiting the Barons to under 28% shooting, according to school officials.

The game started slowly, with neither team scoring in the first four minutes. Carey then took the lead behind consecutive baskets from Shaneal Corpuz. Brewton-Parker briefly led before Carey tied the game at nine with a layup from Corpuz. Meyah Doyle scored to give Carey an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Crusaders pulled away in the second quarter, opening with a 9-0 run capped by a Brooklyn Cuevas three. Brewton-Parker trimmed the deficit to four midway through the period, but Carey responded with consecutive three-pointers from Charlie Gamberine and Leah Sutton. Addyson Sherer scored a layup and foul shot to extend the lead to 31-18. Carey entered halftime with a 34-19 advantage.

Carey continued to control the game in the third quarter, with Cuevas hitting another three early. By the five-minute mark, Corpuz’s layup pushed the lead to 20. The Lady Crusaders maintained a comfortable margin, leading 50-30 entering the final period. In the fourth, Carey opened with a 7-2 run, highlighted by baskets from Alyssa Hillard and Cuevas’s third three-pointer.

Corpuz led Carey with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Ladner added 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Crusaders will host Point University on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Clinton Gym in SSAC play, according to school officials.
