William Carey Track & Field Finishes Strong at NAIA Indoor Nationals

The William Carey University men’s and women’s track and field teams finished fourth and earned multiple medals at the NAIA Indoor National Championships in Gainesville, Florida, according to the school. The men’s team scored 42 points in the meet.

On the track for the men, Barnabas Aggerh defended his national title in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.64 seconds. His teammate Jaylyn Session also competed well in the event, finishing in 6.77 seconds. Session later earned a silver medal in the 200 meters with a time of 21.10 seconds.

In the field events, Avery Abram placed ninth in the high jump after clearing 1.99 meters. Royan Walters won a silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 7.54 meters, while Romaine Lewis finished fourth in the same event with a mark of 7.42 meters. Lewis also won gold in the triple jump with a distance of 15.95 meters.

On the women’s side, Tyeese Smith earned a bronze medal in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.39 seconds. Kristina Stojanovic finished seventh in the 1,000 meters and posted a time of 5:16 in the mile run. In the field, Kerrishma Williams was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.83 meters. Zaniyah Wilson finished ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.81 meters.

The teams will now prepare for the outdoor season, which begins March 20 at the Bulldog Relays in Starkville, Mississippi.
