William Carey Men’s Basketball Dominates Mobile in Conference Win
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey’s men’s basketball team extended its winning streak Saturday afternoon with a 94-72 victory over Mobile in a conference game. The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead and maintained momentum throughout the game, according to a report from the school.
The game started with Carey quickly asserting control. Randarius Hughes opened with a mid-range jumper, and Javeon Gordon followed with a three-pointer at 17:14. Jamar Jenkins added back-to-back finishes in the lane, pushing the lead to 11-4. Carey continued to press, with Malik Franklin hitting a three at 14:14 and Arzika Seibou making a deep shot to extend the margin to 17-7.
The Crusaders capitalized on Mobile’s turnovers, turning steals into transition points. Troy Dunn sparked a 14-2 run with back-to-back threes, increasing the lead to 27-12. Mobile trimmed the deficit to 32-22 before Carey finished the first half strong, ending with a 6-0 run capped by Franklin’s three. The Crusaders went into halftime with a 43-27 lead.
Carey opened the second half aggressively. Hughes scored a quick jumper, and Anthony Robinson made a driving layup, pushing the lead to 47-27. Jenkins hit consecutive three-pointers to widen the gap further. Dunn added another triple, and Makeem Roberts and Seibou made long-range shots as Carey surpassed 65 points with more than 13 minutes remaining. Late in the game, Wippersteg and Seibou hit three-pointers to clinch the win.
Six Crusaders scored in double figures, led by Hughes, Jenkins, and Dunn with 13 points each. Roberts, Franklin, and Seibou contributed 11 points apiece. Carey is scheduled to host UT-Southern on Thursday at Clinton Gym, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m., according to the school’s athletic department.
