William Carey baseball dominates Principia 24-8 to complete series sweep

William Carey University’s baseball team scored 24 runs in a decisive win over Principia College at Cheatham Field, completing a series sweep in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). The Owls (11-8, 6-0 SLIAC) outscored the Panthers (2-12, 0-6 SLIAC) 50-21 across three games and out-hit them 47-34 in the series.

Six starting players finished with multi-hit games, led by senior third baseman Colton Neal. Neal went 4-for-4, drove in six runs with a third-inning grand slam, scored twice, and added a double. Chase Marshall and junior designated hitter Hastings Gibson each went 3-for-4, with Marshall scoring three times and Gibson crossing the plate twice with four RBIs.

Other notable contributors included Matthew Windham, Zach Johnson, and Elliott Turbyfill, each recording multiple singles. Windham scored twice and drove in two runs, while Johnson and Turbyfill scored three times and each had a run batted in. Senior transfer catcher Michael O’Neil homered for the third consecutive game, adding a two-run shot in the first inning, along with an RBI walk and sacrifice fly for a total of four RBIs.

On the mound, senior right-hander Joseph Gantt earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, scattering three hits and striking out one. Gantt has not allowed a run in his last four appearances, dating back to Feb. 20.

The Owls will next play a single SLIAC game at Lyon College on Tuesday in Batesville, Arkansas.
