W Men’s Tennis Defeats Belhaven, 4-2, for Third Straight Win
The W men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches with a 4-2 victory at Belhaven University on Saturday, according to school officials.
The Owls improved to 3-2 overall after defeating the Blazers for the first time in program history. The team had previously gone 0-6 against Belhaven since the 2018-19 season.
W began the match strongly, dominating doubles play to earn the first point. Jorge Ortiz and Sandro Giangregorio won at No. 1 doubles, 6-1. Juan Garcia and Marcos Fernandez took second doubles, 6-2, while Alvaro Bardales and Josh Cooper also won at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
The Blazers won the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches, but the Owls responded with straight-set wins at Nos. 3, 4, and 5 singles. Giangregorio, playing No. 3 singles, won 6-1, 6-2. Fernandez followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Bardales sealed the team win at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 6 singles match was unfinished as the outcome was already decided, with the team match secured.
