UIW Sweeps Alcorn in Men’s Tennis Doubleheader in Vicksburg

Vicksburg, Mississippi — Incarnate Word swept Alcorn State in a men’s tennis doubleheader Saturday at Hall’s Ferry Tennis Court. The Cardinals won both matches by 4-0 scores, according to match reports.

In the first match, UIW took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 positions, after Alcorn opened with a doubles victory at No. 2. The Cardinals then secured four singles victories, with Augustin Salazar, Alejandro Hernandez, and Emilio Vila each winning in straight sets. Vicent Llobell Buigues of Alcorn won his opening set but was trailing in the second when his match was abandoned.

The second match saw UIW again claim the doubles point, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. In singles play, Alcorn’s Sebastian Griffiths retired early after losing the first game. Marcel Miralles of UIW defeated Matthew Holl in straight sets to clinch the match. The Braves fought hard, with Buigues winning his second set and Grime winning the second set after dropping the first, but UIW secured the overall victory. Ian Uraga from UIW also won a three-set match against Fabian Juarez.

Alcorn is scheduled to travel to Memphis for a match Sunday at 3:30 p.m., according to the team’s social media accounts.
