UAH women’s basketball defeats Delta State 83-45
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The UAH women’s basketball team defeated Delta State 83-45 Thursday at Spragins Hall. The Chargers used a strong third-quarter performance to pull away from the Lady Statesmen.
Delta State started well, holding an 12-11 lead after the first quarter. Jariyah Williamson scored early and finished with 23 points, including four three-pointers, and added five rebounds. The Lady Statesmen led in the first half, with Williamson contributing significantly to their offense, but UAH outscored them 23-16 in the second quarter to take a 34-28 halftime lead.
UAH took control in the third quarter, outscoring Delta State 22-7 and increasing its lead to 56-35. The Chargers shot over 66 percent in that period, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and perimeter shooting. UAH extended its margin in the fourth quarter, closing out the game with a strong offensive stretch.
Delta State fought to stay in the game, but UAH’s offensive performance sealed the victory. The Lady Statesmen finished shooting 29.1 percent from the floor and made eight three-pointers. They forced 14 UAH turnovers and received 17 points from their bench.
Delta State, now 11-9 overall and 9-6 in Gulf South Conference play, will return to Alabama this weekend to face West Alabama on Saturday.
