Tristan Bissetta Homers Twice as Ole Miss Tops Austin Peay 9-5
Ole Miss scored nine runs in the first three innings to beat Austin Peay 9-5 Tuesday at Swayze Field, improving to 17-5 on the season, according to the university’s athletics website.
Bissetta launched a two-run homer in the first inning after Hayden Federico drew a leadoff walk, giving the Rebels an early 2-0 lead. The Rebels extended their lead with a five-run second inning, highlighted by a double from Collin Reuter and a wild pitch that scored Utermark.
In the third inning, Bissetta homered again, this time to right field, to push Ole Miss’s advantage to 9-4. Austin Peay responded with a four-run fourth inning, trimming the lead to three, but the Rebels held on. The Rebels’ pitching staff combined to limit the Governors to one more run for the rest of the game.
Grayson Gibson earned the win for Ole Miss, moving to 2-0 this season. Chance Cox took the loss for Austin Peay, dropping to 0-2. Bissetta’s two homers marked his fourth career multi-home run game, according to the team’s social media.
The Rebels will host Kentucky in Southeastern Conference action starting Thursday. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m., with subsequent games on Friday and Saturday.
