Trinity Women’s Basketball Edges Millsaps, 68-56, Fueled by Turnovers
Jackson, Miss. — Trinity University’s women’s basketball team defeated Millsaps College 68-56 in a Southern Athletic Association game Sunday at the Hangar Dome.
The Tigers (9-7, 5-0 SAA) took advantage of 20 turnovers by the Majors (11-5, 2-3 SAA), converting those miscues into 28 points. Trinity also had a balanced offensive attack, highlighted by a 20-point third quarter that helped them maintain their undefeated conference record.
Junior Garin Freeman led Millsaps with 17 points and nine assists, while senior Elyse Warren posted a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Warren also recorded three steals. Junior Tia Anderson scored 13 points, including three three-pointers, and added eight rebounds. Sophomore Ashlyn Hafley contributed nine points and made three shots from beyond the arc.
The game began with Anderson hitting two early three-pointers to give Millsaps an initial 6-2 lead. Warren helped extend the lead to 13-8, but Trinity fought back, tying the game at 17-17 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers then took control early in the second quarter, with Hafley hitting a three to push the lead to 23-17. The teams traded baskets and hits from beyond the arc, and Trinity closed the half with a 9-0 run, leading 37-32 at halftime.
After the break, Trinity built a 15-point lead by the end of the third quarter. Although Millsaps played with physicality, they were unable to close the gap and ultimately fell 68-56. The Majors will host Berry College at the Hangar Dome on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live, with stats available at gomajors.com.
