Trevecca Nazarene defeats Delta State 8-2 in softball series opener
Trevecca Nazarene defeated Delta State 8-2 Saturday in Nashville, marking the series opener at the TNU Softball Complex. The Trojans took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning on a grand slam by Sarah Kinderdine.
Trevecca added two more runs in the second inning to lead 6-0. Delta State chipped away at the deficit in the middle innings. Hallie Turner drove in a run in the fourth with an RBI double, and Maya Mills added a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 6-2, scoring Mary Teague.
The Trojans responded with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Bailey Goad hit a solo home run in the sixth to seal the victory, 8-2. Goad pitched the full game, allowing two runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Calli McConnell led Delta State at the plate, going 3-for-4. Turner added a hit and an RBI, while Teague and Laney Daigrepont also recorded hits. Grace Pippin pitched 3.1 innings in relief, giving up two runs, and Kendal Moore finished the game without allowing a run.
The Lady Statesmen will travel next weekend to Montgomery to face Auburn Montgomery.
