Track and Field Sets Five School Records at Mississippi College Spring Classic

The W track and field teams kicked off the 2026 outdoor season Saturday at the Mississippi College Spring Classic, setting five school records. The men’s team finished ninth out of 18 teams, while the women placed sixth of 13, according to school officials.

Freshman Malachi Morgan led the way, setting records in the high jump and long jump. Morgan cleared 2.05 meters in the high jump, surpassing the previous record of 1.86 meters. He also jumped 7.05 meters in the long jump, beating the old mark of 6.53 meters. Morgan won both events.

In the 100-meter dash, sophomore Kobe Smith posted a record time of 10.81 seconds, breaking the previous record of 10.96 seconds. Smith finished 11th overall in the competitive field. James Nesby, a freshman, set the men’s hammer throw record with a toss of 23.49 meters, finishing eighth. Nesby also became the first men’s field athlete in program history to compete in the hammer throw.

On the women’s side, freshman Ariella Jones added her outdoor long jump record to her indoor mark, going 5.46 meters and finishing fourth. Hali Sinegal, a sophomore, was eighth in the long jump at 5.15 meters and placed fourth in the triple jump at 10.63 meters. Jones also finished seventh in the triple jump at 10.35 meters.

Women’s throws standout Arie’Onna McCollum had a strong meet, winning the javelin throw with a distance of 32.99 meters. She also finished fourth in the shot put at 10.85 meters and seventh in the hammer throw at 30.85 meters, earning three top-10 finishes for the team.
