Toppers shine at Bryan Phillips Invitational with wins from Barnhardt and Shepherd
The University of Tennessee at Martin track team delivered a strong all-around performance at the Bryan Phillips Invitational, with multiple event wins and top finishes across distance and field events, according to school officials.
Jonah Barnhardt led the men’s team, winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:51.83. Five Toppers finished inside the top 15 in that event, including Erick Flores (seventh), Noah Harrington (10th), JT Draper (11th), and Lelan Boulden (14th). The strong showing set a positive tone for the team’s day on the track.
On the women’s side, Ella Shepherd continued her strong season with a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 11:57.70. Shepherd also finished sixth in the 5,000 meters. Kaedyn Wilson added to the success, taking second in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 19:12.44. Lauren Paul finished 13th in that event.
The Toppers also excelled in middle-distance races. Lukas Dykes led the men’s 1,500 meters with a 15th-place finish, and teammate Lelan Boulden also competed. Dykes participated in the 800 meters as well, finishing just ahead of teammate Ja’Karien Perry, who was 18th. Samuel Hopper completed the men’s field in that race.
For the women, Jorja Kate Mooneyhan and Ruth Hutchinson competed in both the 1,500 and 800 meters, showing consistency across events. Mooneyhan led the pair in both races. Lead Montgomery also competed in the 1,500 meters, finishing 36th.
In the steeplechase, Braxton Enzor represented the men’s team, while Shepherd’s victory highlighted the event for the women. In field events, Abby Laney competed in the discus, finishing 18th with a throw of 27.59 meters. Overall, the Toppers demonstrated depth and versatility, particularly in distance events, as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
