Toney and Williamson Earn Major GSC Awards, All-Conference Honors for Delta State Women’s Basketball

Birmingham, Ala. — Delta State University women’s basketball players Dakiya Toney and Jariyah Williamson received major Gulf South Conference awards and all-conference honors, the conference announced Thursday.

Toney, a senior forward from Lake Village, Arkansas, earned GSC Defensive Player of the Year. She also made the third team All-GSC. Toney leads the Lady Statesmen in rebounding, with an average of 6.7 per game, and has blocked 20 shots this season. She is among the top ten in the conference in both categories. Toney averages 9.7 points per game on 45.9% shooting and has posted six double-doubles this season.

Williamson, a sophomore guard from Henderson, Tennessee, was named GSC Newcomer of the Year. She also earned third team All-GSC honors. Williamson has been a scoring leader, averaging 11.8 points per game overall, and increased her output in February to 15.6 points per game. She scored more than 20 points three times last month, including a 21-point effort against Mississippi College. Last night, she posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds in a GSC quarterfinal win over Valdosta State.

The Lady Statesmen advanced to the GSC semifinals for the first time since the 2021-22 season. They will face Union University on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Fred DeLay Gymnasium.

Both Toney and Williamson have been instrumental for Delta State this season, helping the team reach the postseason and earn conference recognition.
