Three Mississippi College Athletes Qualify for NCAA Division II Indoor Track Championships
CLINTON, Miss. — Three Mississippi College track and field athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, set for March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Senior Lauren Wallace, senior Gabe Hodson and freshman Schyler Chambers earned their spots after finishing the indoor season ranked among the top 18 athletes in Division II. Wallace is ranked fifth nationally in the women’s mile after setting a school record of 4:43.85 earlier this season. Her mark not only broke the Mississippi College record but also positioned her among the top competitors in the country.
Hodson qualified 18th in the men’s 800 meters with a school-record time of 1:49.86, which also set a Gulf South Conference Championship record earlier this month. Chambers, in his first year, secured a spot in the men’s triple jump with a school-record leap of 15.14 meters (49 feet, 8 inches), ranking 17th nationally.
The trio will travel to Virginia Beach where they will compete against the nation’s top Division II athletes. Wallace is scheduled to compete in the women’s mile on Friday at 4:05 p.m. Eastern, followed by Hodson in the men’s 800 meters at 5:05 p.m. That Saturday, Chambers will participate in the men’s triple jump at noon Eastern.
Mississippi College’s track and field program expressed excitement for its athletes as they prepare for the national stage, representing the school in collegiate track and field’s biggest indoor event.
