Texas Southern Sweeps Doubleheader Over Alcorn in SWAC Softball

Texas Southern University swept a softball doubleheader against Alcorn State on Saturday at Memorial Park in Houston. The Tigers won the first game 8-0 and took the second 3-2, extending their winning streak and improving their conference record.

In the opener, Kylie Wilson pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit and one walk over six innings. She struck out four and earned her fifth win of the season as Texas Southern scored seven runs in the first two innings. The Tigers took control early, with Wilson scoring on an error in the first inning and the offense adding five more runs in the second. Marisa Perla and Dania Durr led the offense with two RBIs each.

Alcorn State managed only one hit in the game, a single by Olivia Miller in the fourth inning. Starting pitcher Alainah Felton took the loss, falling to 1-5 after surrendering five earned runs in 1.1 innings. Olivia Miller pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing no runs on four hits.

The second game was a closer contest, with Texas Southern winning 3-2. Melonie Guardiola pitched 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win, while Miranda Pena started for the Tigers. The game was tied at 2-2 until the bottom of the fourth, when Jade McQueen delivered a go-ahead RBI single. Mia Montemayor doubled earlier in the inning and scored on McQueen’s hit.

Alcorn State’s Alainah Felton contributed offensively with two RBIs, but the Braves left five runners on base and stranded key scoring opportunities. Chiara Olison took the loss in relief, dropping her record to 6-10. The Tigers improved to 17-6 overall and 7-2 in SWAC play, while Alcorn dropped to 9-18 and 0-7 in conference.

Alcorn is scheduled to host Mississippi Valley State in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday at 1 p.m. The team and its fans continue to seek improvements as the season progresses, with updates available on the school’s social media channels.
