Southwest Mississippi Women’s Basketball falls to Jones College in regular-season finale
Southwest Mississippi Community College hosted Jones College on Monday for their regular-season finale and Sophomore Night. The Lady Bears fell to the Lady Bobcats 64-47.
The game was close early, with Southwest leading 11-8 on a three-pointer by Talana Bond with 3:04 left in the first quarter. Jones responded with a 9-0 run to lead 17-11 at the end of the period.
Southwest struggled offensively in the second quarter, scoring only five points. Jones extended its lead to 30-16 at halftime. In the third quarter, Laci Buchanan sparked a comeback with two consecutive three-pointers, finishing with three in the quarter. Despite her efforts, Jones maintained a 45-33 advantage entering the final period.
The Lady Bears fought hard in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to as few as nine points. However, Jones pulled away late to secure the victory. Buchanan led the team with 11 points, while Gracie Miller scored 10.
Southwest finished the season with a 7-20 overall record and a 3-11 mark in conference play. The program honored players Laci Buchanan, Shanell Celestine, Mady Smith, Kori Ware, Gracie Miller, Jada Houston, Kayla Arterberry, Nakeria Coleman, and manager Lana Burkett for their dedication and hard work.
