Southwest Mississippi Baseball Dominates Florida Post Grad in 14-4 Win
Southwest Mississippi Baseball defeated Florida Post Grad 14-4 in a home game Tuesday. The Bears showcased strong pitching and hitting throughout the contest, according to team sources.
Starting pitcher Talen Boyd went two innings, striking out three and allowing one hit. Florida Post Grad scored two runs in the opening inning before Easton Boyte took over, also recording three strikeouts over two innings without allowing a hit or run.
The Bears’ offense ignited in the bottom of the third inning, tallying four runs on a triple from Robbie Hokamp and a double from Sam Tumminello. Ian Edwards pitched one inning for Southwest, striking out one. The team added two more slow offensive innings before erupting for back-to-back four-run frames, which activated the mercy rule and sealed the victory.
In the sixth inning, Tee Robinson hit a triple and JD Hidalgo doubled. The seventh inning featured several walks and another double from Tumminello. The final run came on a bases-loaded walk to Caden Case. Tate Miller pitched the last two innings, earning the save with three strikeouts and one hit allowed.
Offensively, Tumminello led with three hits, including two doubles. Tanner Moore, Robbie Hokamp, and Landon French each contributed two hits. Several players also stole bases, with Moore swiping four bases and Haynes and French adding two each, aiding the Bears’ offensive effort.
Head coach Jack Edmonson praised the team’s performance, saying, “Glad to see us continue to throw well and our offense was finally able to hit the ball with authority. That’s what we’ve been missing. Hopefully more of that is to come.”
Southwest (4-2) will host a three-game series against Alvin Community College on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 12-13.
