Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Hosts Tulane in Final Home Match
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi women’s tennis team will host Tulane on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the USM Tennis Complex. The match marks the Golden Eagles’ final home contest of the regular season and will feature Senior Day honors for Angelina Blinova, who will be recognized prior to the match.
Southern Miss enters the match with a 7-7 record overall and a 1-2 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. The team’s recent schedule was disrupted by weather, with their April 1 match against New Orleans canceled due to rain. Before that, the Golden Eagles posted a 4-0 win over Southern and a 4-1 victory at Troy, where Miranda Xu secured the team’s point with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles.
Blinova, a senior from Riga, Latvia, transferred from Hampton University, where she earned second-team All-CAA singles honors. She has been a consistent contributor to the team’s singles and doubles lines over her two seasons in Hattiesburg, helping Southern Miss compete in conference play.
Tulane comes to Hattiesburg after narrow road losses to Florida International University and Florida Atlantic University. The Green Wave’s recent results reflect a competitive spring schedule, and they will serve as a strong nonconference opponent for the Golden Eagles, who aim to carry momentum into the final week of the regular season.
Tuesday’s match provides Southern Miss a final opportunity to play at the USM Tennis Complex before closing the regular season with away matches later in April. The team hopes to send their senior out on a high note on their home courts. Players available for the match include Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Mia Hasashi-Morrissey, Celine Mosteanu, Manuella Persson and Angelina Blinova.
