Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Hosts New Orleans After Road Swing
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi women’s tennis team returns to the USM Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon to host New Orleans at 2 p.m. The match marks the start of a short homestand for the Golden Eagles, who will also host Tulane next week before hitting the road again for the final stretch of the season, according to university athletics.
Southern Miss has been on an extended road schedule, which included a 4-0 victory over Southern and a 4-1 loss at Troy. In the loss, Miranda Xu earned the team’s only point with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, the athletic department said. The team’s recent road efforts have tested its lineup ahead of the remaining home matches, which are limited in number.
The Golden Eagles now have just two home matches remaining in the regular season, making Wednesday’s game an important opportunity to regain momentum. The team aims to build confidence before the schedule becomes even more demanding, officials said.
New Orleans enters the match with a 6-5 record this spring. The Privateers recently defeated Southeastern 4-3, claiming the doubles point and securing singles wins at the top of the lineup, according to the team’s results. The upcoming match provides Southern Miss with a chance to prepare for the final weeks of the season.
Southern Miss will have the following players available: Hannah Chambers, Gagana Mohan Kumar, Sakura Sudo, Miranda Xu, Kamornwan Kornsila, Pimmada Lim, Mia Hasashi-Morrissey, Celine Mosteanu, Manuella Persson and Angelina Blinova, the athletic department reported.
